Valentine’s Day Postcards

You will want to set a few hours aside to make these cute Valentine’s Day Postcards, (girlfriends, chocolate and a Hallmark Movie should be part of this fun time too!) I make them out of scrapbook pages. (Makes 8-10 cards)

Supplies:

  • 6-8 coordinating scrapbook pages - The tags, hearts, flowers, and borders I added on my postcards came in a separate package but matched the scrapbook pages I bought. I found mine at Beverly's in San Luis Obispo, CA but Hobby Lobby would carry them, as well as any local craft store.

  • Scissors

  • Glue stick

  • Glue gun and sticks

  • Regular crafting glue - I like Aleene's Crafting Glue, but when in a pinch I've been known to use whatever I can find - even Elmer's School Glue.

  • 2-3 coordinating ribbons (2-3 yards each)

  • Metal hearts

  • Buttons

  • A Sewing machine with contrasting thread to match. NOTE: Any place I have sewn can be glued if you don’t have a sewing machine.

  • Envelopes (4 1/4" x 5 1/2")

Directions:

The base for my Valentine's Day Postcard measures 4" x 5 1/4". Cut your postcard out of one of your scrapbook papers. Next, tear 2 matching papers in 2" x 3" sizes, leaving the edges "rough." Put a little bit of glue stick on the center of the back of these two paper swatches to tack down, the glue stick will allow you to reposition your paper if you want. Place on the front side of your postcard on the right side, using the picture as a guide. Position tags, hearts, etc. and tack down with a small amount of glue stick. Your sewing machine will have fits if you use regular glue or glue sticks for this step.

I like to position a tag on the left side and sew the top down. If it's a blank tag, it's the perfect place to personalize your postcard or write a small sentiment. Trim any paper that goes over your outside edges. Sew on a strip of coordinating ribbon down the center of the postcard, and I like to add one on the right side too. Sew around your entire postcard in contrasting thread. Lastly, using your glue gun or Aleene's Crafting Glue, glue a ribbon in the center top along with a metal heart or button. Don't forget to write a sweet note on the back!
